Unfortunately, On Monday, November 16, 2020, our virtual Council Meeting/Budget Hearing was hacked by despicable cowards who hid behind their phones. The cowards used racial slurs and other hideous language that was extremely offensive. Their words were an assault on everyone in attendance. As soon as we realized that our meeting was being hijacked, the Director of IT acted as quickly as he could. Although I recognize that this is happening all over the country right now, I am truly sorry that this reprehensible incident happened in our Council Chambers. Immediately after the meeting, I met with our solicitor and Municipal Manager, Scott Andrejchak. The investigation began immediately and I am in communication with Chief Burton, who assures me that our detectives are working diligently. If need be, we will bring in federal authorities and request that the FBI use all advanced technology available to prosecute this matter. It is my sincere desire that these reprehensible cowards are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In the meantime, please be assured that I, along with Council and the Penn Hills Administration condemn racism and the actions of these reprehensible cowards. So while the investigation is ongoing and in the hands of the proper authorities, I hope that we can come together in peace during this season of Thanksgiving.
